Reporting a problem

To help us fix it faster, please include:

  • your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings → General → About);
  • the Pennypot version (on the App Store page under Version History);
  • what happened and what you expected, with a screenshot if you can;
  • for a statement that won't import: your bank's name and the column names from the first line of the file. Please don't send the statement itself.

Questions

How is my number worked out?

Your usual is the average you spent on little extras per month over the last three months (or the rough amount you entered at the start). Each day of the month adds its share of that usual. The number is that share so far minus what you've actually spent on extras this month. Above zero, you've earned it; below zero, it says "Over by" and shows how much.

How do I import a bank statement?

In your banking app or online bank, export your transactions as a CSV file, then share it to Pennypot, or choose Import a bank statement in Pennypot's menu and pick the file. Pennypot reads the layout and remembers your places.

My statement wasn't recognised.

Make sure the file is a CSV export (PDF statements can't be read yet). If the layout is new to Pennypot and you allow it, the app asks our server to read the column names from scrambled sample lines, which needs an internet connection. If it still fails, email us your bank's name and the column names.

How do I add Apple Pay purchases automatically?

In Pennypot's menu, choose Add Apple Pay purchases automatically and follow the steps. They set up a Shortcuts automation that sends each Apple Pay payment's amount and merchant to Pennypot. You can turn it off any time in the Shortcuts app.

Can I change which spends count as extras?

Yes. Choose Extra or needed in the menu to change how a place is marked, or tap a spend to change just that one.

Do I need an account? Where is my data?

No account and no bank login. Your spends are stored on your iPhone and synced through your own iCloud. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
